Malta, your child friendly destination

Where shall we go on holiday with the kids? The million dollar question for many families which sends us scouting the internet, flipping over magazine pages, scrolling through forums and finally, delving into our pockets!

When it comes to family travel, few countries soar to the top when you toggle children friendly in your filters… that’s probably because travelling with kids raises many questions and concerns across couples, families and cultures.

That’s not surprising when you have your new born in mind, Jake the toddler and his 5 year old sibling, then maybe there’s your friend Jane’s eldest son Daniel who is 14 years old. WOW what a broad spectrum and we all call them, children.

Base line, you want them to have a good time while you can take your well deserved break and ensure they are safe!

So why does Malta offer something for all families and couples travelling with kids?

Being 3 hours or less from other neighbouring European countries, that means you will be safe on land within a short while and your kids don’t have to deal with long haul trips and the burden that comes with them.

-Most major airlines and low cost carries fly to Malta on a weekly basis, and if you book early enough, you might get unbelievable ticket prices, just like our Canadian and Australian friends do when they book their flights for January and February! Watch out for Air Malta’s early timed offers, signup to their mailing list so you can get the most cost effective offers.

Ryanair flights to Malta, a truly child friendly destination

Flights to Malta run daily from many cities and multiple times a day from the same country especially France, Italy and the UK. This means other family members or friends can reach you shortly after you land. In this fast moving world, getting everyone’s clocks to align is a feat in itself!

Being a small island, you can get anywhere within 30 minute cab ride, we suggest www.ecabs.com.mt for a great experience, polite drivers and having Sat Nav in their cars, you know you’ll get to your destination without having to worry if your phone network is not working outside your country of residence.

That means alot when you want to make the most of your time with the family and spend less time travelling. A small car is a great way to see the areas along the coast or the northern part of the island which is more rural, great for escaping the cities and enjoy some time in peace and quiet. History

Explore-Malta-Nautical-Charm-Malta-Maritime-Museum

Described as an open air museum, Malta offers a great child friendly location with the possibility to integrate a little dose of history in your daily trips which will keep the kids interested while also teaching them more about the world. They will carry some of these memories along with them. You don’t happen to  see 7000 year old structures daily. Whether you are showing them galleys at the maritime museum or neolithic remains at Skorba or a dwelling at Hagar Qim, the setting and well documented facts provide for a truly interesting afternoon.

Fantastic food

If there is one thing which the Maltese islands are inundated with is their choice of great restaurants and fresh food and fish. Take this opportunity to get some fresh fish and seafood from the market in Marsaxlokk on a Sunday if you feel like cooking something yourself or else stop at any of the numerous fish restaurants peppering the coast line. Your kids will thank you for it and so will your better half. Teach your children to eat fresh fish rather than processed foods, a lesson that will go a long way.
